The Sycamores residential care home in Tameside has completed a primary care trust programme in end of life care. The home was one of several to be selected to pilot the programme called 6 Steps to Success, which is run by the NHS.

6 Steps to Success is aimed at residential care homes rather than nursing homes. It is designed to enable care homes to implement the structured organisational change required to deliver the best end of life care.

The home undertook months of work developing their services for existing and future residents and submitted a portfolio of evidence for the NHS team to review. At a recent awards ceremony, the PCT recognised the team from The Sycamores for successfully completing the programme.

Lynn Davidson, manager of The Sycamores said: “We wanted to make sure that we provided the very best care and experience for residents and their families.

“I'm delighted that we've demonstrated best practice in this area and our approach and services have been recognised as such by the local NHS team.”

6 Steps to Success has been such a success within The Sycamores that with the support of the PCT, Meridian plan to roll out the approach to other homes in Tameside.
