A state-of-the-art Winchester care home has opened today, with the help of local Mayor Barry Lipscomb, offering an innovative dementia care environment thanks to an £8m investment from provider Colten Care.
St Catherine’s View is a fifty-six bed facility expertly designed and decorated to suit the lifestyle of individuals with memory loss, divided into dedicated house groups that support the pursuit of independent living through allowing service users to practice key daily skills.
Together with its imaginative interior, St Catherine’s View is situated within landscaped gardens structured so that older people can continue to enjoy outdoor life. As sensory area is recognised as being of benefit to the challenges dementia brings, and home even has its own wildlife garden and bat house, making an excellent addition to the personal interests and activities residents can pursue.
Delighted with the latest addition to the Colten Care portfolio, managing director Ian Hudson says: “This home provides much needed specialist dementia care in an area where there are very few other comparable facilities. We have put considerable investment in both staff training and the design of the home. All along our aim has been to provide quality care in a quality environment.”
With 80 positions to fill, the development has also brought a welcome jobs boost to the area, with new carers experiencing an accredited training programme approved by Bournemouth University.
Colten Care now operates nineteen care homes that have enabled the provider to build up a strong reputation in the South of England.
