Plans to modernise care provision in Derbyshire are moving forward, with three proposed sites having been confirmed by the local council for state-of-the-art ‘extra care’ developments, made possible through a partnership deal with the Chevin Housing Association.
The developers have hosted a number of open days in order to gather views and concerns from residents of surrounding communities that have been incorporated into the planning process.
The three sites are Foolow Court, in Chesterfield, Cressy Fields, in Alfreton and the third proposed for a former Clay Cross school site. All together the development will account for only 197 of the 1,600 extra care apartments Derbyshire County Council are looking to create over a period of five to seven years, as part of a £200m investment to modernise residential care service across the county.
Group director of new business for Together Housing Group, of which the Chevin Housing Association is a member, Paul Hayes commented: "The Together Housing Group is delighted to be working with Derbyshire County Council and all our other partners to create fantastic new extra care schemes.
"These homes will make such a positive difference to people who need extra care and support and they will also help support local communities by keeping people together and bringing new jobs and amenities."
Adult care councillor Charles Jones spoke of the council’s vision for care services: "We want as many people as possible to have their own front door and live independently for as long as possible in five-star accommodation and surroundings.
"Our plans for extra care mean couples would be able to stay together and have 24/7 on site care if they need it, and there would be an excellent mix of services available for older people in Derbyshire."
