A manager at the Greensleeves Homes Trust has been named care home manager of the year for giving residents “voice, choice and control”.
Asvinta Thakkar won the award at the Great British Care Awards for her dedication and management of Queen Elizabeth House, Bromley, Kent.
The Judges said that it was “wonderful to see such huge passion for working with other people and commitment to leading an organisation that provides dignity; their care centres around the residents.
"In particular, we were impressed by Asvinta’s ethos of giving the residents ‘voice, choice and control’ and the way they were incorporated into the team”.
Ms Thakkar has worked with Greensleeves Homes Trust for 20 years. Under her leadership, Queen Elizabeth House has been runner-up in the Guardian Public Service Awards, winner of the Bromley Business Awards for training, development and customer care and home of the year in Greensleeves own Accolades Awards.
Ms Thakkar said: “I am thrilled to receive this award and I wish to thank all those that help support me in my daily life, which includes my staff and Greensleeves head office personnel. Most importantly, I wish to thank the residents at Queen Elizabeth House and their families for nominating me.”
She offers residents full control in the running of their own home from planning care programmes to managing offices and onsite shops. The residents are supported by staff who have been recognised for the way in which they promote dignity and provide person centred care.
The team were acknowledged for their work at the 2011 Regional Great British Care Awards where they won first place in the category of Care Team of the Year.
