A care home deputy manager got to meet the Queen, as a result of her outstanding care work, for which she has won two awards.

Sarah Coleman, deputy manager of care home in Mid Glamorgan, Wales, met the Queen when she was invited to the Queen’s Garden Party.

Ms Coleman, who has worked in the care home for six years, won Nurse of the Year and Dementia Care Practitioner at the Welsh Care Awards last year.

She was nominated for the awards for her initiative to support relatives of the residents suffering from the condition.

She set up a group for the relatives and provided a range of information and magazines on dementia.

Ms Coleman said: “I really enjoy my job and helping to provide high quality care. I am always looking for new and innovative ideas to present to the home. To win the two care awards was amazing and the invitation to the Garden Party really was the icing on the cake.

“I went to the party with my mum and it was fabulous. I bought a new dress and hat for the event, it was all quite exciting. I was very nervous to meet the Queen. It was a great honour and she was very nice.”

Willows Mountain Ash care home is owned by Craegmoor. Craegmoor, part of the Priory Group of Companies, is the country's leading independent provider of support for people with autism, learning disabilities and mental health problems.
