One of three extra care housing schemes being planned by Derbyshire County Council, in association with the Chevin Housing Association Ltd, has been given the go ahead after an open day was held at the Foolow Court site welcoming comments from members of the local community.
The scheme, now approved by Chesterfield Borough Council, will consist of 55 two-bedroomed extra care apartments designed to help older people with care needs achieve an independent style of living, while having access to skilled care provision.
Cabinet member for adult care, councillor Charles Jones, commented: “We are delighted the extra care housing scheme at Foolow Court has been given planning permission and we look forward to work starting on the scheme.
“We took local residents' privacy in to account when we were designing the scheme and consulted with them before the plans were submitted.
“We want as many people as possible to have their own front door and live independently for as long as possible in five-star accommodation and surroundings.
“Our plans for extra care mean couples would be able to stay together and have 24/7 on site care if they need it, and there would be an excellent mix of services available for older people in Derbyshire.”
The two other extra care developments currently seeking planning permission are proposed for sites in Alfreton and Clay Cross, being part of a £200m investment to transform residential care service across the county.
