Care provider BCG has taken over the running of Brookfield Residential Home in Carnoustie near Dundee, after its owners retired.

All 41 members of staff, including manager Mary Brownlow, and 24 residents have transferred to Balhousie Care Group.

Tony Banks, chairman of Balhousie Care Group, said: “We are pleased to have taken over Brookfield Residential Home and welcome all the staff and residents to Balhousie Care Group.

“We are always looking for opportunities to add value to the business and we felt we shared the same values and standards as Mr and Mrs Fletcher so this was an appropriate move for us, as well as ensuring that the jobs were safeguarded and there was continuity of care for all the residents, who will be cared for by the same members of staff as before.

“The care home is full and we believe there is sufficient demand in the area for places at both care homes, which are well established and popular.”

John and Rosalind Fletcher will continue to own the building at 37 Maule Street, but Balhousie Care Group will now be responsible for all day-to-day operations.

Facilities at the home include a putting green, shop, hairdresser, library and transport for outings in the local area. Residents also enjoy an entertainment programmes, including weekly concerts, theatre visits and daily games.

Balhousie Care Group already owns nearby Balhousie Willowbank Care Home and in time Brookfield will be rebranded to reflect the Balhousie colours and style.

John Fletcher said: “We bought Brookfield as a family home in 1987 never realising it would become our business only three years later. Over the last 22 years, we met many characters and made wonderful friendships.

“Thanks are due to our dedicated staff past and present, and all the health care professionals who made Brookfield into the success it has become.

“We chose Balhousie Care Group due to their vast experience, reputation, resources, and eagerness to continue with our successful formula. We wish the staff, residents, and families, a prosperous future and thank Balhousie for the smooth transition and for their professionalism.”

Balhousie Care Group now cares for more than 860 residents in 25 homes across Aberdeenshire, Angus, Dundee and Perthshire.

A further two homes are currently being built at Huntly and St Ronan’s, Dundee, taking the total capacity to around 1,100 residents.
