A nursing home in Eastbourne has received the highest award of ‘Beacon’ status in the Gold Standards Framework for its end of life care.
in Summerdown Road has been awarded the NHS and Age UK backed Beacon status for end of life care for the second time.
Pentlow manager, Lesley Wicks said: “Achieving the award for the second time proves that we continue to provide excellent standards and quality end of life care for our residents. All my staff have striven to provide the very highest standard to residents and their relatives.”
Care homes that receive the GSF (Gold Standard Framework) Quality Hallmark Award for the second time have demonstrated a continued improvement in the quality of care they provide, as well as a halving of hospital deaths and crisis admissions.
Professor Keri Thomas, GSF national clinical lead said: “GSF is about a ‘gold standard’ of care for all care home residents as they come to the last stage of their life. Pentlow has proved that it is achieving this over a sustained period continually building on what is already a high standard of care.
“We have delivered training in this quality assurance process to more than 2,000 homes across the UK and are accrediting up to 200 homes a year. This helps individuals and their families to identify homes delivering high quality care and shows that despite media reports to the contrary there are many homes providing the kind of care our elderly and infirm want and deserve.”
The Beacon status is part of the Gold Standards Framework (GSF) in Care Homes Quality Hallmark Awards.
