A tour of the home was arranged for The Mayor of Guildford, healthcare professionals, local community representatives and several residents. Chief executive of Barchester, Mike Parsons and Anne Milton MP unveiled a plaque to mark the opening of the new home as everyone raised a toast.

Anne Milton, MP for Guildford said: "It is fantastic to see a care home that even in its early stages is already heavily supported by its local community. I can see so many familiar faces in front of me today and it is wonderful to experience such community spirit. Worplesdon View has managed to achieve that home from home feel and I wish it a very successful future.

Two local heroes were also invited to the open day where they enjoyed canapés and entertainment from a local brass band. Liz Critchfield, was nominated by Lyn Day, the manager of Crossroads Carers. Liz's mother lived with dementia and Liz cared for her for many years. When her mother passed away, Liz began to volunteer at the Crossroads dementia café and continues to support many charitable activities.

Barry Gamble, was put forward by Betty Leach, president of the Worplesdon Women's Institute. Barry volunteers for Fairwood Helpers and recently found and helped a neighbour who had fallen and broken a hip.

Lynda Garner, general manager of Worplesdon View said: "I was proud to show Anne Milton MP around Worplesdon View and am so glad that I have such a supportive team. We will now focus on growing our community within Worplesdon and focus on making this beautifully designed house a home."
