Encouraging young people to work in the care industry is the aim of a new training programme in Tayside being delivered by The Prince’s Trust Scotland and BCG.
The six-week training programme, Get into Care, will give young people the opportunity to train and develop skills relating to the industry and achieve recognised accreditation.
They will undertake work experience placements within a Balhousie care home as well as working on improving their employability skills through CV writing workshop and interview skills.
Balhousie Care Group has guaranteed all 12 young people an interview for a care assistant’s position upon completion of the course.
Launching on 22 October, The Prince’s Trust is looking for 12 young people, aged between 18 and 25, who are currently unemployed and would like to apply for the programme.
This is the second Get into Care programme The Prince’s Trust and Balhousie Care Group have delivered and 100 per cent of those who completed the previous programme gained employment with the care group.
Heather Gray, director of The Prince’s Trust Scotland, said: “I am delighted that we will be delivering a second Get into Care programme in Perth and Dundee. The programme gives young people an excellent training experience and access to real employment opportunities.
“By working in partnership with Balhousie Care Group, our combined knowledge and expertise will help young people to realise their full potential and provide them with the opportunity make a very positive and lasting difference in their lives.”
Tricia Stewart, HR director at Balhousie Care Group, said: “We are pleased to be working with The Prince’s Trust to run another Get Into Care programme. All nine graduates from the first scheme have been working with Balhousie Care Group, which is testament to its success. They now have the opportunity to gain SVQ qualifications as they progress in their new careers.
“We are keen to attract new trainees from across the Dundee and Perthshire area, where we have a number of different Balhousie Care Group care homes which offer a wide variety of opportunities.
“A career in care is a vocation as well as a positive career choice, with potential for personal development as well as the satisfaction of knowing we can make a difference to the lives of the people in our care.”
