The GovKnow conference on reducing healthcare associated infections and improving patient safety is offering a limited number of free places until 20 November.
The conference, which is being held on Thursday 22 November in Central London, is an opportunity for people working within, and alongside, the health sector to gain a valuable insight into tackling healthcare associated infections and best practice to ensure patient safety remains a priority.
The National Patient Safety Agency recorded over 1.3m patient safety incidents in England and Wales in the 12 months up to September 2011 and it is estimated that the cost of patient safety incidents cost over £2bn a year, with a further £1bn being spent on healthcare associated infections (HCAI).
A key way to ensuring patient safety incidences are kept to a minimum is through the use of new, cutting edge technologies. Technology in patient safety has been proven to reduce errors in operating theatres and increased reporting of incidences on hospital wards.
Topics being discussed at the conference include fighting infections with technology – using the best equipment to manage wards and hospitals, the Central Alerting System - providing a rapid response to patient safety incidents and the benefits of robotic dispensing systems to reduce prescription errors.
Speakers at the conference include Dr Natasha Robinson, president of Patient Safety Section, Royal Society of Medicine and Professor Anthony Kessel, executive lead on HCAI at the Health Protection Agency.
