An East Grinstead care community is beginning to take shape, after developers Kier Construction began work at the Charters Village site in September with a view to completion at the end of summer 2013.

The latest project from Retirement Villages includes a 60-bed nursing and residential home, together with 80 apartments, bungalows and chalet bungalows, alongside a wide range of on-site leisure and community facilities to help residents achieve an independent lifestyle.

Development director David Phillips comments: “We have been working on this project for several years so it’s exciting to see the buildings now, quite literally, taking shape.”

Project manager for builders Kier Construction, Rob Curtis, says: “We are pleased with the way the build is progressing. The foundations are all now in. Over the coming weeks the walls will go up and that’s when the perspective of the village will start to be more obvious.”

Construction work also includes the transformation of an arts and crafts style manor house – Charters Towers, which will become the villages central clubhouse. The manor house has been the centrepiece of the site for over 100 years and has been protected as part of the development, with the first apartment to be named after ballerina Dame Margot Fonteyn for her visit to the nearby Bush Davies School.

The site will increase the Retirement Villages portfolio to 23 sites, all of which are located in the South of England or East Anglia. Together with access to tailored care services, clients of the provider can also benefit from continued property investment, inspired by American lifestyle developments.
