Bupa Care Services UK is celebrating after becoming the largest healthcare company and first big care home operator to achieve the Investors in People Gold Standard, for demonstrating excellence in staff development and support.
Bupa Care Homes has over 27,000 employees and the IiP accreditation covers its 300 care homes, regional offices and head office in Leeds.
In receiving the accreditation, Bupa Care Services UK has been praised for superb people practices, a supportive team working culture, learning and development opportunities, knowledge sharing, community involvement, a flexible working culture and involvement and responsibility of all staff.
John Telfer, managing director of Inspiring Business Performance Ltd (IBP), the organisation that delivers Investors in People for London and the South, said: “We saw managers really focused on spotting potential in everyone and encouraging people to grow and develop.
“We were particularly impressed with initiatives such as Bupa’s ‘Person First, dementia second’ training programme which over 11,000 staff have completed and a number of communication channels that allowed management to communicate with all UK staff, from the ‘Ask Oliver’ email account for employees to ask the UK Care Homes Director any question at any time, to the ‘Take Ten’ daily staff briefing.”
Mr Telfer continued: “Being recognised as an Investor in People is becoming increasingly more important, and the higher the level of accreditation, the better it reflects on your organisation to potential employees, investors and customers.
“Bupa Care Services UK should be extremely proud of their achievement.”
Bev Ashby, Director of Human Resources of Bupa Care Services UK, said: “Our people are our greatest asset. We invest in them because we want them to love working at Bupa, and to continue to provide amazing, round-the-clock, high quality care and support to our residents and their families.
“We are delighted their hard work and commitment has been recognised by this prestigious accreditation.”
In order to achieve the Gold standard, organisations must meet 165 or more different standards. This includes 39 core accreditation standards.
Bupa Care Services UK met 175 evidence requirements, exceeding the minimum for a Gold Standard.
Only 3.2 per cent of organisations in the UK achieve the IiP Gold standard which goes beyond the nationally recognised Standard.
