Not-for-profit care provider, Coverage Care Services Ltd is building a new £6.9m home in Oswestry.
The new home to be called New Fairholme will replace Coverage Care's existing site, Fairholme, on Morda Road, though it will have more than double the space for residents and support services.
Chief executive of Coverage Care Services, David Coull, said: “You could call New Fairholme an exemplar for the next generation of care homes. It has been designed with the changing landscape for care needs in mind.
“It will allow us to provide Oswestry residents with the very best services when they need them, as well as creating jobs in the town and economically supporting the community it is part of.
“As a not-for-profit organisation we exist to provide a full range of services for older people and this is an investment in Shropshire that we are very pleased to be able to make.”
Construction is being carried out by Wrexham-based Castlemead Group and the new facility is on course for its scheduled opening in spring 2013.
The finished building will offer 88 en-suite rooms and will provide both residential and nursing care for residents.
It is designed to meet evolving care requirements, including removing the need for service users to move to other facilities if their care needs change, due to the greater range of support available on the one site.
Around 40 residents from the existing Fairholme will transfer to the new site when it opens.
Coverage Care Services operates 16 care centres in Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin, employing around 900 staff who provide a variety of professional care services to more than 1,300 mainly older people.
