The latest cutting edge music technology was brought to Tunbridge Wells Care Centre giving residents the opportunity to make their own music.

Instructors helped ten residents to use the touch free device, which uses beams of light to translate body movements into sound.

The ‘Soundbeam’ technology was brought to the home in Upper Grosvenor Road by charity Compaid.

Activity manager Bill Blackford said: “This technology liberates participants from both the expressive limitations and the physical challenges of more traditional percussion-based approaches.

“It is particularly applicable for those with dementia.

“Music triggers our memories and has the ability to transport us back to emotive times in our lives, which can really give everyone a boost.”

The nature and sensitivity of the beam allows the most immobilised residents to ‘play’ independently. The technology encompasses a wide variety of music genres including classical, blues, pop, rock and jazz.
