Ravi Gidar, founder of care provider Gold Care Homes, has been awarded the prestigious Asian of the Year 2012 accolade in recognition of his tireless contribution to the Asian community in the UK.
An independent panel of respected advisors including previous award winners chose Mr Gidar to receive the award for his commitment to business, culture and the community.
He was presented the award at the Asian Who’s Who international ceremony, held at the Dorchester Hotel on London’s Park Lane last week.
Mr Gidar said: “This award is not for myself but for the whole Asian community. I have only given my time and experience but others give so much more.
“There are many people who are deserving of this award but I am humbled to have received this honour.
“I feel honoured and appreciated by the whole Asian community, which contributes to British society in business, enterprise, sport, politics and much more, and has now become an integral part of Britain, providing diversity and culture.”
He continued: “I feel strongly that we need to remember our elders who came to the UK in the 1960s looking for a better life and now are in their 80s.
“They paved the way for my generation and younger people to make something of themselves as British citizens and along with all older people, deserve our respect and care.
“This is reflected in Gold Care Homes’ ethos of providing care, nurture, respect and dignity within an environment that is both safe and stimulating.
“My vision for the future is one where hearts are touched and we all reach out to help the causes that are important to us, such as charity, politics or enterprise, and I believe that charity starts at home, here in the UK, where we must work together to tackle issues such as homelessness and poverty.
“I thank, above all, the Lord almighty for his blessings and my family and friends for their loyalty, their support and their love.
“I would also like to thank Asian Who’s Who, Mr Sachar and his team for this prestigious award in 2012, the year of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the Silver Jubilee of the Asian Who’s Who publication.”
Mr Gidar came to the UK in 1966 with his parents from India. He and his brother Sukhi established Gold Care Homes in 1999 after purchasing their first care home in Hemel Hempstead.
Mr Gidar is known for his support of charities including Crimestoppers and Great Ormond Street Hospital. He has also received an Asian Leadership in Community Health Care award.
