The Priory Group has opened a new residential dementia unit at Cooper House care home in Bradford.
Cooper House, in Bradford, is a purpose built home currently providing care to older people. The new 21-bedded service will enhance the home’s care provision to offer a continuing care pathway for people with dementia from residential through to nursing care.
Keith Wilson, home manager said: “Moving into the new residential dementia service will enable people to remain in an environment they are familiar with if their care needs change. A clear pathway from dementia residential to dementia nursing care will be available.
“The experience the Priory Group has in mental health, complex and long term care transfers very well into older people’s services. People are now living longer and have more complex needs and associated health issues that we have the experience to care for.”
The care offered will be in line with the new Dementia Strategy recently launched by the older people’s division of the Priory Group. The Dementia Strategy, which has been created in consultation with care home employees and stakeholders, sets out an agenda to create a better care environment, engagement for residents, family and community involvement and continuous learning experience for the teams who deliver care.
There is a need for good dementia services in the north of England with over 22,000 people with late on-set dementia living in care homes.
