New specialist Hyde nursing unit will reduce dependency on hospital stays

Post-hospital care is the focus of a new specialist unit at ’s , as the provider looks for innovative ways of working more closely with local health services.

The new unit, Grange View, has been set up in partnership with the Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust and will welcome patients from Tameside General Hospital and other nearby facilities.

Specialist nurses and therapists will focus on helping adults to regain their independence before returning home, including for individuals with mobility issues and those in need of wound care.

Meridian Healthcare managing director Susan Firth, comments: “Meridian has provided quality assured care in Tameside and Glossop for over 20 years and together with our excellent local partner Pennine Care, have been selected to deliver a new service for the borough. Grange View at Hyde Nursing Home will complement the residential, nursing and dementia care services Meridian currently provides for older people in Tameside and will help to reduce the amount of time spent in hospital.”

Director of transformation, Clare Watson, welcomed the development, saying, “NHS Tameside & Glossop are very pleased to have commissioned the service from experienced providers in Meridian Healthcare & Pennine Care Foundation Trust. We are confident that together they will provide services of the highest quality for our residents and enable early discharge from hospital to get patients fit and healthy to go back home”.

Michael McCourt, director of operations and nursing at Pennine Care, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Meridian as a recognised local care provider. Grange View will help to ensure patients don’t have to stay in hospital for longer than is needed because they can be cared for safely in the community, which aids recovery and improves the patient experience.

“As well as providing expert care and treatment, we also help patients to understand more about their illness and how they can prevent it becoming worse in the future.”
