After opening in Winchester in May 2012, St Catherines View has been revealed as one of three homes nominated for ‘best specialist dementia facility’ at the Pinders Healthcare Design Awards.
The home has been presented with a finalist’s plaque and a cheque for £500 to Coltons Care’s nominated charity, the Southampton Admiral Nurse Service by the panel of Pinders judges.
Colten Care’s head of technical design, Alan Portsmouth, said: “People living with dementia respond to safe yet stimulating environments. Every detail of St Catherines View, from the memory-themed rooms to our rustic-style gardens, has been designed with dementia care in mind. We chose the Admiral Nurses as our nominated charity because of the valuable contribution they also make to dementia care.”
St Catherines View’s rustic garden were also recently gold award winners at the New Homes Garden Awards. Colten Care homes have been winners at the Pinders awards before when The Aldbury in Poole won ‘best new development in elderly care/dementia’ in 2004.
Pinders director Jon Chapman said: “We have assessed, analysed and compared all of the excellent designs submitted for this year's awards. The bar has certainly been raised again this year and all of the chosen finalists are exceptional.”
The awards have been running for 14 years and give recognition to excellence in quality of design in all types of care related property. The winner will be announced at the Lords Cricket Ground in London on 21 March 2013.
