ECCA chief Martin Green appointed visiting professor of social care

Martin Green, chief executive of the , has been appointed visiting professor of social care at Buckinghamshire New University.

ECCA works to ensure that care services are commissioned fairly, efficiently and on a properly funded basis, to meet the true costs of providing appropriate care. It is the largest representative body for independent social care services in the UK.

Professor Ruth Farwell, vice chancellor, said: “Buckinghamshire New University is committed to engagement with acknowledged experts beyond the universities’ boundaries because this enhances our currency and the relevance of our programmes and research. Without doubt, Martin Green's experience and specialist expertise make him well qualified for the role of visiting professor."

Martin Green, who will remain as chief executive at ECCA spoke of his delight with his new role as visiting professor and said: “I am looking forward to supporting the university in strengthening its engagement with the independent care sector.”

Mr Green has held a long list of eminent job titles including being chief executive of five British charities, vice-chair of the International Longevity Centre and a trustee of the National Aids Trust.

In 2012, in his role as Department of Health Independent Sector Dementia Champion, he led the development of the Dementia Care and Support Compact for the Prime Minister's Challenge on Dementia. In 2008 he was named Care Personality of the Year and was awarded an OBE for services to social care in the 2012 Queen's Birthday Honours List.
