Film director Richard Attenborough moves into care home after health deteriorates

Richard Attenborough, director of Oscar-winning film Gandhi, has moved into a care home with his wife who suffers from dementia.

Lord Attenborough, 89, and wife, Sheila Sim, 90, have moved into a care home, which looks after elderly entertainers, because of deteriorating health.

The film director and brother of David Attenborough has been suffering from poor health since going into a coma in 2008, after a fall. He is now in a wheelchair and finds it hard to communicate.

The couple moved to the care home after selling their house in Richmond in London for £11.5m.

Lord Attenborough’s son Michael, confirmed that his parents have moved to the care home in West London.

He told the Daily Express: “The family home has been sold and he has been at a care home with his wife since then.”

Lord Attenborough had acting roles in Brighton Rock, The Great Escape, Miracle On 34th Street and Jurassic Park.

He also directed the Shadowlands, Chaplin and Oh! What a Lovely War. His daughter Jane Holland and teenage granddaughter Lucy were killed in the Asian tsunami on Boxing Day in 2004.
