Social care providers are being encouraged to show their commitment to providing excellent care and support for people with dementia by signing the Dementia Pledge.
Since it was launched last month, the pledge has been embraced by 360 care providers who are keen to develop their understanding of the condition and to adapt their services to meet the needs of those with dementia.
The pledge, which was commissioned by the Department of Health National Dementia Work Force Advisory Group, has four key principles - know the person who is living with dementia; quality care, quality life; everyone has a leadership role and value-focussed care.
Those who commit to it are given access to free information and learning resources which help them assess the services they provide and receive support developing an action plan for continuous improvement.
Professor Martin Green OBE, chief executive of the English Community Care Association and joint chair of the Dementia Pledge, said: “The Dementia Pledge is a proactive way for care providers to demonstrate their commitment to delivering excellent dementia care.
“Already I have received positive feedback from care providers who have indicated how easy the resource is to use and that they are using the reporting function as part of their management information to support their decision making processes for service improvements.”
