A UK charity has launched the first ever Super Grandparent Awards, and is calling on children and adults to send in their nominations for loved family members.

The aim of the award is to highlight the importance that grandparents have on the lives of their younger family members, through offering their kindness, wisdom, support and unconditional love.

Recognising and appreciating the contribution older people can give to families as well as the community will improve relationships between older and younger generations and bring people closer together.

Rob Parsons, founder of Care for the Family and author of The Sixty Minute Grandparent said: “Grandparents and grandchildren share a special bond. As adults many of us can remember sharing time with our grandparents and building memories to last a lifetime. The Super Grandparent Awards offer an opportunity to nominate a grandparent or grandparents who have made an amazing contribution to family life and to give them the recognition they deserve."

Children and adults have been urged to enter the competition by sending in their video clip or a written entry which captures what makes their grandparent unique and special.

The winner of the UK’s Super Grandparent will win an afternoon tea with their family, and the opportunity to have a family portrait taken by a professional photographer.

Mr Parsons added: “We believe all grandparents are super - and we want to celebrate them. That's why we've created the Super Grandparent Awards - so families can tell the world just how much they love their grandparents, and why. We want to search the nation for inspirational grandparents who go above and beyond.”
