The care home, which opened in May last year, has a variety of rooms and garden spaces designed especially for memory stimulation. Special indoor and outdoor navigational aids have also been introduced to help residents retain their independence for as long as possible.

Alan Portsmouth, Colten Care’s head of technical design, collected the award. He said: “People living with dementia respond very well to environments that are safe, therapeutic and stimulating. That approach has informed all aspects of the design of St Catherines View and the ongoing care we give our residents every day.”

It was a double celebration for Barchester Healthcare when two of its homes won awards. Lakeside Village in Jersey won the award for Best Complex while Harper Fields in Balsall Common, which has 80 bedrooms, won the Best Large Care Home award.
