Staff at Bupa care homes will tackle loneliness amongst older people by hosting tea parties.
Elderly people will be invited to join staff and residents at homes across the country during Bupa’s Communi-tea Week, which runs from 15 April until 21 April, for a variety of tea-themed events, including tea tasting sessions and 1950s tea dances.
At each event guests will be able to take part in a variety of fundraising activities held in aid of WRVS, a charity dedicated to helping older people live independently in their homes while being active in their local community. The aim of the campaign is to tackle the issues of isolation and loneliness in older people.
Siobhan Drane, community partnerships manager, said: “Loneliness amongst older people living on their own is far too common as they struggle to get around as easily and become more dependent on others visiting.
“This is a great opportunity for a natter and a bit of fun with people from the local area - both young and old – and in addition it’s raising valuable funds for a charity which works to keep this problem at bay. “Teapots at the ready everyone.”
