Award winners will receive a bespoke support package to help them to improve their campaigns.

The Sheila McKechnie Foundation work to empower people to have a voice, and give them the correct advice and resources they need to make their campaigns successful.

The award recognises that campaigners of all ages have the possibility to make an impact on the community, whether campaigning for age related matters, or other important issues.

Linda Butcher, chief executive of SMK said: “This past year we have witnessed campaigners come to the fore. From local campaigns to save the NHS, to global movements in Egypt and beyond, people have been successful in generating discussion, fostering debate and creating transformations.

“The SMK Campaigner Awards are well placed at a time when grassroots action is so prominent in our society today; the awards support people from all walks of life who care deeply about injustice and inequality, and have got great ideas about how to make things better.”

The awards celebrate people who want to make a positive step towards achieving social, environmental and economic justice, with previous winners tackling issues such as doorstep lenders, preventing prostate cancer and preserving ancient woodland.

Family and friends who know an older person that is taking action on issues that matter to them have until 10 June 2013 to apply.

The winner will be given one-to-one coaching from an experienced campaigner, and mentoring from key sector individuals as well as a three-day residential skills-building weekend.
