The founding chairman of Shropshire’s largest independent care provider has retired after 17 years of continuous service.
Arthur Ware became chairman of Coverage Care Services when it formed in 1995. He stepped down 11 years later but remained as a non-executive board director until his retirement last month.
Speaking at his final board meeting, Mr Ware said: “I have felt absolutely privileged to have been involved with Coverage Care. It has been the most fulfilling experience for me and it has given me the opportunity to work with some of the most dedicated people I have met.
“When I began my involvement with the care sector the average age of those entering homes was the early 60s, now it is the early 80s and the type and quality of care has improved beyond all recognition in the best care homes.
“Coverage Care’s reputation is the envy of many because it has put quality of care first, supporting that with a robust business model that is non profit taking and with charitable status.
“I’m very pleased with where the organisation is now and where it is going in the future and I wish all of the staff and directors the very best.”
Ken Bean, the current chairman of Coverage Care Services, paid tribute to Mr Ware’s commitment to the organisation. He said: “Arthur Ware’s commitment to Coverage Care Services has been unfaltering and has been a crucial part of the organisation’s success, not least due to the strength of his vision for what are services should be like.
“I have been delighted to work with him since I became chairman and, on behalf of the whole board, I wish him the very best for the future.”
David Coull, chief executive of Coverage Care Services, said: “I have known Arthur Ware for 15 years and have worked with him at Coverage Care Services for the last 10 years.
“His contribution towards inspiring change, innovation and development both as our founder chair and more recently as a non-executive director has been enormous.
“I and my colleagues will miss his guidance and humour greatly.”
