Priory Group’s Fernlea care home has reached the end of a thorough refurbishment programme and has now reopened to welcome young people aged 16 to 25 with specialist needs.

While focusing on autistic spectrum disorder (ASD), the redesign now means the facility is ideal for associated learning disabilities and also Asperger’s syndrome.

As well as safeguarding the care needs and well-being of their residents, the Fernlea care team will focus on empowering adults to take more control over personal lives, pursuing the goals of independent living through the practice of social and life skills.

Registered manager at Fernlea, Tracey Bolton, comments: “Our aim is to enable young people to live as independently as possible and to make their own choices as they develop their independence. Fernlea will offer support, learning and life skills to enable each individual to maximise their potential.

“Priory prides itself on achieving positive outcomes and at Fernlea we aspire to support the young people in our care to gain increased levels of independence and live happy, meaningful and fulfilling lives.

“Fernlea can offer a continuing care pathway to allow students to progress from our schools and we are certain that the new service will be a great place for our young people to develop.”

Fernlea residents are further supported by the access the home provides to mainstream education, working in close partnership with two specialist Hampshire schools that are run by Priory Education Services.
