Staff and residents at a care home in the New Forest held an indoor 1940s street party to celebrate the 68th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day.

Woodpeckers Care Home in Brockenhurst, which is part of Colten Care, was decorated with bunting, Union Jack flags and 1940s memorabilia for the party on Wednesday last week. Staff joined in with the celebrations by dressing in period costume.

After the party, home manager Jacqueline Reddel said: “We’ve organised similar VE celebrations in the past and they’ve always proved very popular. This year was no exception.

“Our residents have been encouraged to reminisce about VE Day and share their memories of that time. It’s been very successful.”
