Legal & General has joined forces with Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit housing and care provider for people over the age of 55, to raise money for lonely elderly people.

The financial services company has funded the production of Anchor Community Band’s single ‘See Yourself’, which celebrates the positive aspects of growing old. It means that all money raised from the sales of the song, potentially £15,000, will be donated to Contact the Elderly, a charity dedicated to tackling loneliness and isolation in older people.

Graham Precey, Legal & General’s head of corporate social responsibility, said: “I’m very proud that we are supporting this campaign with Anchor.

“Due to advances in medicine and healthier lifestyles we are all living longer and as a major provider of pensions and annuities, we want to ensure that more people understand how important it is to save for their retirement earlier to avoid poverty in later life.

“We like backing new and innovative ways that help raise awareness about these issues and to get more people engaged. I am amazed that over 300 people have been involved in the making of this single and so I would encourage everyone to download the single or buy the CD as every sale makes a real difference.”

Jane Ashcroft, chief executive of Anchor, said: “Music is a powerful medium, which brings people together. We wanted to write a song based on real life experiences, lifetime achievements and challenges overcome as well as older peoples’ aspirations for the future. Together we are creating a record that highlights the talents older people have, which hopefully, will become synonymous with the benefits of age.

“Thanks to the kind support from Legal & General in covering the costs of production, all income from sales – up to a maximum of £15,000 – will be donated to Contact the Elderly and all profit will also be donated to them.”

‘See Yourself’ will be officially released on 3 June and is available to pre-order as a download from iTunes or as a CD on Amazon.co.uk now.
