Residents at Perth’s Balhousie North Inch Care Home will enjoy a colourful summer after a group of volunteers transformed one of the home’s courtyards.
Members of the Perth and District YMCA Prince’s Trust Team Programme gave the outdoor area a complete makeover during a two-week community project, building raised flower beds, painted walls and creating a colourful mural.
Dobbies Garden Centre donated plants and compost, while Henry Maitland provided top soil for the project.
Barry Davidson, Prince’s Trust Team leader, said: “During the team programme participants have been undertaking a wide variety of activities designed to give them essential experience in areas such as team work, leadership and employability skills, as well as gaining some additional qualifications.
“Once I explained the aims of the community project, the team worked together in deciding the type of project they wanted to undertake. They made contact with Diane at Balhousie Care Group and it was agreed that they could give one of the courtyards at North Inch House a makeover.
“To add to the generous donations, the team have been fundraising to cover the costs of the community project. The team carried out a bag pack at Marks and Spencer and have also been selling Peel-2-Save cards.”
Diane Halley, care home manager, said: “We are so grateful for all the hard work put in by the team from The Prince’s Trust, they have really done themselves proud and have given everyone at the home something to enjoy for many years to come.
“We would like to thank everyone involved in this project and also all the organisations which have donated to ensure this was a success.”
