Colten Care residents have helped to raise £17,000 for a variety of charities in the last year.

They have supported a wide range of causes, including Sports Relief, Parkinson’s UK and Macmillan Cancer support, with each home nominating a main one to help every year.

Activities organisers and carers at each of Colten Care’s homes work with residents to enable them to fundraise in a meaningful way and help them take part in sponsored walks and make crafts to sell at fetes.

Activities manager Karen Burdon, who heads the 37-strong team, said: “Sometimes residents stick with the same charity but they always put it to a vote. It’s up to them as it’s their home. We make a point of promoting resident choice in all aspects of home life. Choosing who to raise money for is just one of the areas where they have choice and control.”
