Local people have been invited to think of a new name for a specialist dementia care home which has begun construction in Gorleston.
Peterhouse Avenue in Gorleston will be operated by care group NorseCare, and is planned to be completed by the summer of 2014.
Karen Knight, managing director at Norse Care (Services) Ltd, said: “I’m delighted that the work at the new care home at Peterhouse is underway and that we’re well on the way to providing a top quality facility for Gorleston residents.
“Providing outstanding specialist dementia care is something that we’re dedicated to at NorseCare so it’s wonderful to be moving closer to opening a home with top of the range facilities for Norfolk people living with dementia.”
Residents of three smaller care homes in the area will be moving into the new development, by the middle of next year, when their homes are planned to close.
Older people from the closing homes are set to benefit from the state-of-the-art dementia care home which is being built on the site of a former primary school.
The development will accommodate up to 88 residents and boast many modern facilities such as a treatment room, a hair dressing salon and a number of lounges and a café.
The estimated budget of the development is £6.9m and will care for residents with dementia by providing larger living spaces, private facilities and bigger bedrooms.
The home will also have a special staff training room which will ensure that staff members can continually develop and learn new skills to help people living with dementia.
Care home operator NorseCare is Norfolk’s largest care home provider and was created by Norfolk County Council.
