Morella Kayman MBE has been awarded the lifetime achievement award at the First Women Awards ceremony.

Ms Kayman received the award in recognition of her work in co-founding Alzheimer’s Society at the awards ceremony which recognises inspirational women across the UK.

Jeremy Hughes, chief executive of Alzheimer’s Society said: “I'm delighted that Morella has won this award. She is a truly inspiring woman who should be recognised for her tireless work in the charity sector. We nominated her for the time, effort and commitment she’s dedicated to Alzheimer's Society.

“Her tenacity and determination to improve the lives of people with dementia has ensured great progress over the years. In her work as Vice President, she continues to support the charity in fighting on behalf of all those affected by dementia.”

The event has been running since 2005, and was set up by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) and Real Business, to recognise women who have opened up opportunities for others. This year’s black tie event took place last night and was presented by Claire Balding.

Ms Kayman is now the vice president of Alzheimer’s society, and created the Alzheimer’s Society after her husband was diagnosed with dementia in 1972.

After finding many people were also struggling to find practical support and advice surrounding the condition, Ms Kayman dedicated time to create the organisation which now helps to improve the lives of thousands of people with dementia.
