North Shropshire MP Owen Paterson has praised the design of the latest addition to the Coverage Care Services Ltd portfolio, the 88-bed New Fairholme in Oswestry.
Mr Paterson, who is also Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, rated the standard of the facility as “beyond our wildest dreams,” when visiting to cut the ribbon and officially open the development.
He commented: “It is just extraordinary when you think of what care homes used to be like 10 or 15 years ago, and it's an amazing achievement that this has been built, and in a relatively short time. The quality is just outstanding, and I want to congratulate everyone involved.”
Mr Paterson continued: “The care of the elderly is a growing industry because, thanks to modern medical technology and the quality of our carers, people are living a lot longer, which is something which should be celebrated.”
Coverage Care now operates 16 care homes across Shropshire, having built up a fine reputation through a focus on the continuity of care and nursing, including for many complex needs and on a not-for-profit basis.
Chief executive, David Coull, spoke more on the home’s qualities, saying: “New Fairholme is the fourth new care home we've built, but the difference here is scale and also the continuum of care that it offers. We can confidently anticipate that people coming into New Fairholme will not need to move again no matter how their condition or their needs escalate.
“Nothing is more upsetting than the prospect of moving home at a time when you feel most vulnerable. We are providing accommodation in four different units for up to 88 people, supporting their needs through confusion, dementia, frailty and, indeed, end of life.
“We have been absolutely delighted by the support of the community in the work we have been doing here. Our new home inherits the family atmosphere of its predecessor in the town, Fairholme, on Morda Road, while bringing the benefits of a wider range of services offered to more people.”
Once working to full occupancy, New Fairholme will employ 120 people, consisting of four floors each with 22 bedrooms.
