A Jarrow care home has undergone an official renaming ceremony, after the completion of a significant refurbishment programme carried out by Executive Care.

The 49-capacity Hillcrest Care Home has been renamed Roseway House with the help of local children from Jarrow Cross Primary School, including Katey Dempsey, aged 10, whose choice of name was favoured by the home’s owners.

Home manager Marion Redhead comments: “We’ve invested a lot of time and money in creating a stimulating and homely environment for our residents. With a new look and new staff, it was time to give Hillcrest Care Home a new name.

“The renaming reflects a wider investment in the home that includes a heavy focus in training for our staff. All of our carers undergo rigorous and ongoing training to help provide the best possible care to our residents.”

As well as naming the home, Katey was invited to attend the opening ceremony and, together with South Shields Mayor Ernest Gibson, planted a rose bush in honour of the name.

Ms Redhead continues: “It was a fantastic day. Everyone really enjoyed it and we were so pleased the mayor was able to come along and perform the opening ceremony for us.”

Executive Care Group chief executive David Harrison adds: “This event represents a new chapter for Roseway House and the beginning of a new partnership between the home, Jarrow Cross Primary school and the wider community.”
