St Edmundsbury Borough Council has approved plans to build a state-of-the-art care home and wellbeing centre in Haverhill, Suffolk.

The new facility in Chalkstone will house 60 residents and will be built by Care UK, which is working with Suffolk County Council to help deliver the authority’s vision for the care of older people by providing purpose built homes.

The spacious new home, which will provide nursing and specialist dementia care, will have comfortable bedrooms with ensuite facilities. Residents will be able to spend time in large communal areas, as well as sitting out in a garden area and visiting an on-site café, hairdressers and cinema.

Chris Hopkinson, regional operations director at Care UK, said: “We are very pleased to have been granted planning approval for the new care home in Haverhill. Unfortunately there is currently a shortfall of specialist nursing and dementia beds in Suffolk and this new care home is a step towards addressing this issue.”

Construction of the site is due to start in October, with the aim of opening late next year. When the new home is open, Place Court care home, also in Haverhill, will close and residents will have the option to move into the new facility.
