Malvern Hills care home invests to upgrade service potential

A Worcestershire care provider is promising more nursing and support jobs, after successfully seeing through the first phase of a major refurbishment programme.

Welland House Care Centre, near Malvern, is investing in specialist technology to make the most of modern care capabilities, while enhancing communal areas and also refurbishing several bedrooms.

Owned by Redwood Health Care, the second phase of refurbishment will begin this autumn, which will see more bedrooms upgraded and relaxation areas added to the gardens.

Home manager Clare Mudge comments: “Our recent refurbishment has not only created more space for residents, but has allowed us to introduce the latest in bedroom technology such as special mattresses, electronic beds and easy-access bathroom suites.

“The comfort and care of our residents has been central to the investment and we hope it will help enhance our reputation as a professional, first-class Worcestershire care home.

“It will also give us an opportunity to welcome new residents which in turn would mean a boost for the local jobs market as we look to add further to our nursing and support staff.

“Through the refurbishment we have been very careful to retain the best parts of the traditional Victorian house but also add a variety of 21st century facilities people want and deserve from a modern care home. We are delighted with the feedback so far and look forward to beginning phase two later this year.”

Developments at the home have been boosted by an excellent performance in a recent CQC inspection report, within which relatives of residents had given their approval, praising the staff and services at Welland House.

Ms Mudge responds: “It has been an exciting few months for us. To have completed the first phase of our refurbishment and then become CQC compliant is fantastic.

“People can see we have raised the bar even higher in terms of our care and facilities and that was underlined in the report. That’s down to the hard work and dedication from our staff.”
