Jeremy Hughes was welcomed by Marlborough Court care home staff and residents to deliver a presentation about dementia care.

The presentation titled ‘Dementia Care- What makes a difference?’ was followed by a tour of the home with staff who recently won ‘Best Care Team’ in The Great British Care Awards.

Jeremy Hughes said: “In my job, it’s really important I see first-hand the types of care people with dementia are receiving in care homes. It was good to meet the staff at Marlborough Court Care Home who showed how much they care for their residents and how they go about creating a homely environment.”

Marlborough Court Care is part of the Four Seasons group, which has signed the Department of Health supported Dementia Pledge in order to show their commitment to providing the highest level of care throughout their organisations.

Marlborough Court’s Care Home manager, Maggie Candy said: “Jeremy Hughes’ visit was a real privilege and we were glad to have the opportunity to show him around the home and highlight the care that our team delivers.”

The home is also working towards becoming one of Four Seasons Positively Enriching And Enhancing Residents Lives (PEARL) specialised dementia centres by showing how their access to training and mentoring has allowed them to provide excellent care for people with dementia.

The centres on the PEARL dementia care programme have also been working towards minimising the amount of residents who need to use antipsychotic medications and other drugs as part of their care.

The result of the programme has seen a 48 per cent decrease in residents needing to use antipsychotic drugs and experiencing an improvement their wellbeing as a result.
