Plans for the home, in Somerville Road, was given the go-ahead by Birmingham City Council planners, who praised the Midlands-based construction company for the sensitive design.

Massey Ltd will carry out the work on behalf of Homecroft Four Oaks, a family-run care business.

Nigel Massey, managing director, is excited about the project. He said: “We have recently completed a major £2.5m extension to another nursing home in Sutton Coldfield. The challenges with this project are very similar. It’s in a sensitive area and it’s important to ensure that the new building fits in with its surroundings and other buildings in the vicinity. It is also important to work with consideration for the community and ensure as little disturbance as possible during the construction phase. The project is a complex one which requires all of our expertise in care home construction. Ecological considerations were a priority for us.

“Construction will be in keeping with surrounding buildings, including the nearby Wyndley Grange nursing home which goes back to 1872. During the extended planning process we have worked closely with Birmingham City Council’s homes and neighbourhood directorate and conservation experts to ensure the best possible appearance for the new building.”
