A new cinema advert aimed at recruiting young people to join the care sector will be shown before the new Richard Curtis blockbuster ‘About Time’ in cinemas across England during September.

The 30 second advert will star 18-year-old Ellie Fudge, an apprentice at Gold Hill care home in Buckinghamshire.

Skills for Care - the body for workforce development in adult social care in England, hopes the advert will be seen by over half a million people.

Skills for Care, chief executive, Sharon Allen, highlighted the need to encourage youngsters to join the ever growing care sector;

She said: “If we don’t attract many more highly motived and talented young people like Ellie to join the army of apprentices we already have, then we will struggle to meet the needs of people in our communities, but I’m confident that when people see this ad in the cinema, Ellie will inspire them to sign up as adult social care apprentices.”

“The best thing about this ad is seeing Ellie’s love of her job and the real difference she makes to the lives of the people she works with. Ellie is able to see for herself the different opportunities on offer for apprentices.”

Ms Fudge did not start out her working life as a carer but as a sales assistant. She decided to pursue a career in the care sector after helping to care for her grandmother’s friend who suffers from dementia.

For those considering a vocation in the care industry, Ms Fudge said: “I would recommend an apprenticeship as there is a lot to learn, and getting qualifications means that it’s not a dead end job. There are opportunities to progress. I want to stay in care and work my way up, to as far as I can go!”

“The best thing about working in social care is knowing that you are helping other people and that every day is different. Sometimes it’s emotionally challenging, but you have the support around you to help with this.”
