Seale Pastures House in Derbyshire has been awarded a five star rating by Environmental Health after a rigorous inspection found excellent food hygiene throughout the home.

The achievement is the highest rating a care home can receive from Environmental Health officers, and shows the home has complied with statutory obligations by showing outstanding food hygiene standards.

Margaret Leary, manager at Seale Pastures House, said: “We’re delighted to have been awarded 5 stars for our food hygiene. It is incredibly important that we achieve the highest possible standards of food hygiene and all the members of staff at Seale Pastures House work very hard and are dedicated to maintaining our excellent standards.”

Seale Pastures is part of the Akari Care group and provides care to 40 older residents.

Ageing causes people to have a weakened immune system for fighting infections, and they are more likely to become ill or suffer from food poisoning than younger people.

Seale Pastures was recognised for its efforts to minimise the risk of residents becoming ill by ensuring a high standard of food hygiene was maintained throughout the home and conforming to the ‘accepted good practices in the trade’ described by Environmental Health officers carrying out the inspection.
