A new dementia residential suite has been opened in Ascot which will provide specialist dementia nursing care for up to 14 people.

The new service has been designed to minimise the confusion people living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia can experience.

The suite has been built within Care UK’s Larkland House and allows residents to benefit from plenty of natural daylight throughout the home which has plenty of open spaces to spend time in.

Councillor David Coppinger, The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead’s lead member for adult services and health, opened the home and said: “I was very pleased to be able to open this wonderful new service that will give first class nursing care to people in our borough. Caring for our ageing population is a key aim of the council and it is reassuring to know that services are being developed to secure the health and wellbeing of people with dementia.”

Maizie Mears-Owens, Care UK’s head of dementia services, helped to develop the new service, which includes en-suite bathrooms in every bedroom.

She said: “The suite and the rooms look beautiful and they make the most of natural daylight, which we know benefits people with dementia.

“The suite has been designed to minimise confusion, with special signage and use of colour so that residents can move around safely without becoming disorientated. This, teamed with first class nursing care, will create the perfect home for people with the condition who want to have choices.”
