Innovative care training techniques, incorporating a wide range of mixed media, have led to care home provider HC-One being presented with a prestigious Peer Award.
The Technology for People and Performance Award recognises the success of a learning and development programme launched in September 2012, which has enabled professionals to develop their skills using e-learning, workshops, animations, games and videos.
Using these ‘touch’ techniques, carers have been able to tailor their personal development to suit many specialist conditions, such as for dementia.
Head of people at HC-One, Alison Innes-Farquhar, comments: “HC-One is delighted to have won the Technology for People and Performance award at this year’s Peer Awards. A key objective over the past year has been the implementation of HC-One’s ‘touch’ learning and development programme, which has transformed the way we communicate, reflect and learn.
She continues, “‘Touch’ is a fundamental part of HC-One and demonstrates how we ensure that HC-One provides the kindest care for our residents, so we are delighted that its impact has been recognised. ”
Those who undertook the ‘touch’ programme gave the training methods a 92 per cent approval rating, while care home managers have reported back positively on the difference it has made to daily operations.
Since launching the programme, HC-One estimates that carers have undertaken 228,000 hours of learning.
HC-One is the UK’s third largest care provider, operating more than 200 facilities and with a presence in most regions.
