The opening ribbon has been cut at a new Yorkshire care home, designed by award-winning architects Brierley Groom to embrace traditional qualities and achieve a purpose-built accommodation that celebrates local history.
Named after the leader of the movement to abolish the slave trade, William Wilberforce residential home is situated in the market town of Pocklington, is built to provide luxury and hotel-style living, as well as having its own 40-seated surround cinema, antique furniture and a dedicated dementia suite.
Pleased to see the development open, director Meg Kennedy comments: “When we asked a group of potential residents whether they would prefer to live in a care home or a 5 star hotel, each of them opted for the latter. So we have built something which embodies traditional living and great service, whilst maintaining the highest standards of care.”
She continues: “We understand that variety is key to a happy life and our home has been designed with leisure and relaxation in mind.
“We’re particularly proud of our tradition and historical connections and wanted this to be reflected in the building. This really is unique accommodation in a stunning location and we believe our facilities are second to none.”
Some of the home’s traditional features include the use of Yorkshire handmade bricks dressed with stone lintels and quoins, as well as original Victorian lampposts. These are accompanied by scenic views, with the facility overlooking the Pocklington gliding club and the landscape of the East Yorkshire Wolds.
William Wilberforce owners have thirty years of experience in knowing what makes for an ideal care environment and are now delighted to welcome their first residents.
