Edward Moore House welcomed a team of professional netball players into the care home to get residents active and reminiscing in the New Year.
After discovering many residents had played in netball teams when they were younger, the home’s activity coordinator invited a local team in for an afternoon of games and nostalgia.
Teresa Pullen, activity coordinator at the home, which is part of The Abbeyfield Kent Society said: “Many of our residents used to play in netball teams when they were younger so they really enjoyed reliving their memories during the session.
“It wasn’t too strenuous but got them moving and talking about their past, everyone who took part really enjoyed themselves.”
Residents were able to take part in a mini tournament with the team, named ‘Phoenix’ who brought along both their uniforms and some netballs for the residents to use.
The professional sports women encouraged many residents to enjoy the afternoon by seeing if they still had their netball skills and techniques and everyone was able to share stories of their memories of the game.
Abbeyfield Kent provide residential care for over 500 people throughout the South East of England, in its care homes, supported homes and extra care schemes.
