A ‘harbour scene’ mural, painted and contributed to by residents at the home, has been unveiled at River View Care Centre in Dartmouth.

The mural depicts Dartmouth harbour and features local landmarks and is now being enjoyed by many residents who can use the scene to share their fond memories of the location.

The mural was unveiled in the home’s new ‘community’ space, which has been specially designed with the needs of those living with dementia in mind and features an art gallery with pictures also created by the residents.

The area also includes vintage shop windows with scenes from the past to help residents with dementia to reminisce about their past.

Paul Courtney, manager at River View, said; “The mural has made a lovely addition to our home here at River View. It was so kind of the resident’s family to spend so much time and put so much care into creating this masterpiece.

“The residents have said how impressed they are by the likeness of the harbour scene and it is doing a great job of brightening up the community area.”

A new art club runs within River View Care Centre for residents to continue to benefit from both art therapy and reminiscence therapy.
