Development has started on two assisted living schemes which will provide support appropriate for those who might need more assistance than living alone but do not require the 24 hour care offered from a care home environment.

The contract has been given to developer Castleoak by Methodist Homes (MHA) with construction due to start this month.

The Swindon development will provide 33 one and two bedroom apartments to local people and will be built next to Fitwarren House a care home offering nursing care.

Planning permission has also been granted for the creation of 37 assisted living apartments and 13 care suites in Peterborough.

Jane Barker, group director of retirement living at MHA, said: “Our assisted living offering provides a genuine alternative to a care home. We are delighted to once again partner with Castleoak to deliver these developments.”

Castleoak said the apartments will be cheaper for people than buying a one bedroom apartment but will provide more space and independence than the options provided by nursing and care homes.

Simon Greenstreet, customer partnerships director at Castleoak, said: “MHA has been a customer of Castleoak for more than 15 years. We understand MHA’s requirements and are able to drive innovation to enable high quality care in various care settings.”
