Specialist care home designed to dispel negative dementia care myths

Growing care provider Colten Care Ltd has opened its latest new facility, the purpose-built Linden House based in Lymington.

More than 150 guests attended the opening, including the town’s Mayor Anna Rostand, who enjoyed a lunch reception and tour of the facility.

Designed to suit the challenges of caring for adults with dementia and memory loss, Linden House is separated into four small ‘house groups’, while incorporating an interior design that takes advantage of skilled colour schemes and navigational aids.

Addressing the guests, home manager Jackie Hampton said: “We hope that Linden House will help to dispel any myths around dementia care. It will be a home where an individual can really thrive and experience a new lease of life. It will give relatives peace of mind that their loved ones are being taken care of and it will become a family community like our other homes.”

Supporting care residents to achieve an active and interesting lifestyle, as a means of combating the effects of dementia, the home also has its own café, retreat, cinema and hairdressing salon, as well as a ‘Linden Square’ that features shop front designs that reflect Lymington’s Georgian roots.

Executive chairman of Colten Care, Ian Hudson, said: “Linden House will provide much needed specialist dementia care for Lymington and the surrounding area. We have more than 30 years’ experience in elderly care, giving us a huge body of knowledge about the different dementia journeys people can take. Our approach is based on helping people to maintain practical life skills and a spirit of independence for as long as possible.”

The home’s opening has also provided a welcome jobs boost for the local area, with around 100 positions being created and all team members benefitting from skilled dementia training accredited by Bournemouth University’s School and Health and Social Care.
