One of the UK’s largest healthcare providers, Barchester Healthcare has signed another 35-year lease agreement with leading care developer, Castleoak, this time for an 80-bed care home in Castleton on the outskirts of Cardiff.

The £8.5m home will be funded by the CarePlaces Fund, a joint venture between Castleoak and sustainable growth investor Bridges Ventures, which focuses exclusively on building high quality homes for older people.

Castleoak’s development team acquired the site and secured planning permission. Construction by Castleoak’s specialist design and build team will commence this month.

Property and asset management services will be provided by Castleoak to the CarePlaces Fund for the duration of the lease term.

David Duncan, investment director of Barchester Healthcare, says: “We have worked with Castleoak on a major programme of new build care homes across the country and are delighted by the outcome so far. We look forward to providing an excellent environment, tailored to the specific needs of older people in the Cardiff and Newport area, including those living with dementia.

“Delivering high quality care in first-class care homes is at the heart of Barchester’s ethos and through these collaborations with Castleoak we provide stunning buildings and develop strong links within the local community.”

Steve Bucknell, managing director of Castleoak Care Developments, adds: “Our leasehold development solutions are an attractive option for operators and are at the heart of our commitment to providing a flexible approach to the development of new care accommodation. We are delighted to work with long-term customer Barchester on this ninth care home development.”

In the course of the last 12 years Castleoak has built 22 care homes for Barchester Healthcare, which equates to more than 1,400 care beds.
